Field Hockey Falls In Conference Opener at Keystone

(LA PLUME, Pa.) – Wilson opened up conference play in the United East with a familiar rival in Keystone on Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix kept it close with the Giants before ultimately falling in defeat.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 0, Keystone 2

Venue: Keystone Turf Field Athletic Complex

Records: Wilson 5-4, 0-1 United East; Keystone 6-2, 1-0 United East

How It Happened
  • Wilson's defense was tested most of the day as the Giants attacked frequently. The hosts opened up the game with seven shots in the opening frame as Allyson Shindler (Gr., Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern) kept the game scoreless with saves on all three that were on target.
  • Six more shots by Keystone followed in the second. Shindler was able the make the save on one, but a penalty corner late in the quarter allowed Keystone one final chance before halftime and resulted in a goal for the hosts.
  • Wilson eventually generated some offense in the fourth with shots by Paige Ney (So., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) and Jill Ahlgren (Sr., Mercersburg, Pa. / Mercersburg / Gettysburg), but Ney's take was saved while Ahlgren had her shot blocked.
  • On the opposite side Shindler was able to make another save before a pair of corners set up the Giants once again for an insurance goal with 4:20 left in the game.
Inside The Numbers
  • Despite the result Shindler was strong between the pipes with seven saves on 18 total shots faced.
  • Both goals were scored by Keystone's Miranda Mascia. They were her third and fourth goals of the season.
  • The result snapped a four game win streak over the Giants for the Phoenix.
  • The loss also snapped a 21-game win streak against teams in the same conference including playoff and non-conference games.
