(LA PLUME, Pa.) – The Wilson women's basketball team kept its winning streak in tact as it defeated Keystone on the road Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix have now won six-straight and also snapped a four-game losing streak against the Giants in the process.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 55, Keystone 48
Venue: Gambal Athletic Center
Records: Wilson 8-4, 5-1 CSAC; Keystone 4-9, 3-3 CSAC
How It Happened
- Both teams fought tooth-and-nail throughout the game with neither team holding a lead larger than nine points. In fact, no one held a lead larger than five points until the fourth quarter. Thankfully that belonged to the Phoenix who opened up the frame on an 9-3 run to go up 45-38 with 6:23 to play. Six of those points belonged to Samira Murphy (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Great Bridge Christian) who followed up a Yaya Cannon (Sr., Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) bucket with a pair of layups and free throws.
- A layup by the Giants cut the deficit back down to five points, but Wilson responded with another bucket by Murphy and a jumper by Bry Hicks (So., Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) which put the score at 49-40 with 3:38 left in regulation.
- A 7-0 run by Keystone followed that cut the deficit to two points before Murphy hit a jumper with 75 seconds left. The Phoenix were able to keep the Giants off the scoreboard the rest of the way and hit 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to set up the final score.
Inside The Numbers
- Murphy had another stellar game as she led all scorers with 18 points and was 5-of-10 from the field. She was a rebound shy of a double-double and made four steals as well. She did most of her damage in the fourth quarter where she went 4-for-5 with three rebounds and went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe for 11 points.
- Adrianna Stricek (Fy., Harrisburg, Pa. / Trinity) has had about a great of a start as anyone in the new year as she has recorded three consecutive double-doubles since the team returned from the winter break. Today she totaled 10 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.
- Jewels Torres (Fy., York, Pa. / West York) put forth a solid game with nine points and six assists. She rejected two Giants shot attempts and made a steal as well.
- The team benefitted from the free throw line where they were 18-of-22 for the afternoon.
- Wilson controlled the glass with a rebounding margin of 47-38. Seventeen of those were on the offensive end which directly led to 17 points.
