Women's Hoops Show Guts, Take Glory In Double-OT Win

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Adrianna Stricek (Fy., Harrisburg, Pa. / Trinity) and Samira Murphy (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va. / Great Bridge Christian) had career-high games to help Wilson defeat St. Elizabeth in 104-94 in double-overtime on Wednesday evening. The offensive output is the most points scored in over 10 years in a single conference game.

Stricek scored 37 points and Murphy was right behind her with 32 to lead the Phoenix to victory. As a result, the Wilson win streak remains intact and moves to seven games.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 104, St. Elizabeth 94 (2OT)

Venue: Gannett Field House

Records: Wilson 9-4, 6-1 CSAC; St. Elizabeth 5-7, 3-3 CSAC

How It Happened
  • Wilson trailed for most of regulation including a 10-point deficit at 51-41 midway through the third quarter, but eventually clawed its way back and took the lead at 75-74 on a layup by Stricek after a perfect pass to the low block from Madison Ross (Sr., New Oxford, Pa. / New Oxford). After a missed shot by the Eagles on the opposite end, a pair of Jewels Torres (Fy., York, Pa. / West York) free throws gave the Phoenix a 3-point lead, but St. Elizabeth was able to tie the game and send it to overtime on a layup with an and-one free throw by Destiny Battle.
  • Both teams held small leads in the first overtime, but it appeared that Wilson may be able to squeak out the win as it was up 87-84 with eight seconds to play. The Eagles had other ideas, however, and Kolby Lynch was able to tie the game at the buzzer with a 3-pointer.
  • Thankfully the momentum didn't carry over for the Eagles as the Phoenix led from start to finish in the second overtime period. Murphy opened the scoring with a layup on a dish from Yaya Cannon (Sr., Lancaster, Pa. / Lancaster Catholic) and Wilson never looked back, outscoring the Eagles 17-7 in the final five minutes.
Inside The Numbers
  • Stricek won't soon forget this game as she scored 37 points and pulled down 15 rebounds, 10 of which were on the offensive end. She was 13-of-22 from the field and added four steals, one of which took place in the second overtime period and gave Wilson a 99-89 lead with 2:21 left.
  • Murphy also had a career night with 32 points and 16 rebounds. She was 11-of-26 and dished out four assists with three steals.
  • Torres and Cannon joined them in double-figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
  • St. Elizabeth was led by Battle who led all scorers with 42 points. She was 14-of-28 and pulled down 16 rebounds.
  • Wilson reached the century mark without hitting a single 3-pointer in the game. The Phoenix were 34-of-79 from the field overall and 36-of-48 from the foul line.
  • Wilson outscored St. Elizabeth inside the paint by a margin of 58-46.
  • This is the second-straight game at home against St. Elizabeth in which the two teams went to double-overtime. The Phoenix also defeated the Eagles on November 27, 2021 by a score of 81-76.
