Venue: Huckaby Gymnasium
Records: Wilson 9-8, 3-3 CSAC; Clarks Summit 3-12, 2-4 CSAC
How It Happened
- For the second-straight game Antonio Bussey (Sr., Aiken, S.C. / Aiken / Claflin) got the Phoenix off to a hot start with a slam dunk just 15 seconds into the game. He added two more buckets for good measure and Garib added a layup to give Wilson a quick 8-0 lead less than three minutes into the game. The Defenders were able to climb back within a possession at 14-12 after a Garrett Plantz layup, but a Gary Robertson (Jr., Washington D.C. / Potomac) steal led to a fastbreak layup by Godwin kept it a two-possession game.
- Wilson was able to extend its lead from there and eventually went up 14 after Jeremiah Carter-Johnson's (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) 3-pointer made the score 37-23 with 3:26 to go in the first half, but the Defenders stayed alive by scoring the final six points of the half.
- That run extended to 8-0 after the hosts scored the opening basket of the second half, but it was the closest they would get the rest of the way. Wilson's offense fired up once again and proceeded to hit seven its next nine shots to go on a 16-2 run to take control of the game with a 55-35 lead with 14:42 to play. The Phoenix led by as many as 25 following a pair of Garib free throws with 7:28 to play.
