(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Antonio Bussey (Sr., Aiken, S.C. / Aiken / Claflin) and
Darryl Garib (Sr., Dallas, Texas / Forest Park) both recorded double-doubles, but it wasn't enough Rosemont on Wednesday evening. The Phoenix overcame a double-digit deficit built up by the Ravens in the first half before the visitors edged out the Blue and Black down the stretch.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 56, Rosemont 61
Venue: Gannett Field House
Records: Wilson 7-7, 1-2 CSAC; Rosemont 5-8, 3-0 CSAC
How It Happened
- Wilson had a dominating presence inside for the entire game, but the outside shot helped a hot-shooting Ravens squad early on. As a result Rosemont was able to take an early lead on the Phoenix. A 7-0 run by Wilson midway through the first half tied the game at 19-all, but Rosemont answered with a 20-8 run to take a 12-point lead into the locker room at the half after they shot 55.2% from the field.
- A fast-break layup at the start of the second half gave the Ravens a 14-point lead, their largest of the game, but the visitors soon went cold thanks to a revamped Wilson defense. The layup made the score 41-27, but it would be Rosemont's last field goal for 11:14. The Phoenix took advantage of crashing the boards and answered on the opposite end to take a 5-point lead on a 19-0 run capped by a Jeremiah Carter-Johnson (Sr., Richmond, Va. / Mills E. Godwin) layup on an assist from Garib. That made the score 46-41 with 8:49 to go.
- Wilson ended up gaining a six-point lead at 50-44 after a Bussey layup, but Rosemont answered and tied the game at 52-52 with 3:37 to play. The teams remained deadlocked at 56-all before Rosemont's Nick Strain broke the tie with a 3-pointer with 80 seconds left. Wilson was unable to answer and Rosemont knocked down a pair of free throws to set up the final score.
Inside The Numbers
- Bussey had a huge game and was nearly unstoppable with 20 points and 15 rebounds, both of which were game-highs. He was 9-for-11 from the field and also flashed some defensive skills with three steals.
- Garib joined him in recording a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards. Most of his caroms were on the offensive end with eight.
- Rosemont featured a trio in double-figures with Zaire Mitchell leading the Ravens with 17 points. He was 7-of-14 from the field.
- Wilson dominated the glass by a 50-21 margin, its largest difference of the season. The Phoenix had 22 alone on the offensive end which translated into 23 points.
- Wilson also controlled the paint and outscored Rosemont inside 42-28.
- The Ravens were able to take advantage of Wilson miscues, however as they score 30 points off turnovers and 23 fast-break points, most of which coincided with each other.
