How It Happened
  • The Griffins controlled the tempo early and took the first six shots of the game. All were within the first 10 minutes, but only one was on target in which Billy Merk (Sr., Macungie, Pa. / Lehigh Carbon CC) made the save.
  • The first goal of the game was the result of a set piece as Aidan Diem (Fy., Baltimore, Md. / Archbishop Curley) took a free kick from about 30 yards out on the left side. The shot went through the defense and snuck inside the far post in the 21st minute.
  • Wilson's lead doubled five minutes later when the Phoenix were fouled in the box which resulted in a penalty kick. Diem's shot from the spot was true for his second goal of the game.
  • Gwynedd Mercy eventually broke through in the second half when Josh Rossell took a pass from Connor Bilotta up the left side and struck it to the far post to make the score 2-1 in the 65th minute.
  • The Griffins continued pressure for the equalizer which they eventually scored with 16 seconds remaining. Shaine Kirby scored the goal on a header after it was saved from going out of bounds by Kasey Wallace who recorded the assist.
