Game Recap: Field Hockey | | by Logan Smith

Field Hockey Falls at Shenandoah

(WINCHESTER, Va.) – Wilson opened up a stretch of games against teams from Virginia with a road trip to Shenandoah on Monday evening. The Phoenix battled a talented Hornets squad, but were at the bottom end of a 6-0 score at the end of the night.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 0, Shenandoah 6
Venue: Aikens Stadium
Records: Wilson 2-2, Shenandoah 6-0
How It Happened
  • Shenandoah registered a shot within the first minute, but goalkeeper Allyson Shindler (Sr., Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern) made the save to keep the game scoreless. Wilson was able to counter attack a few minutes later which left Alexis Pflumm (Sr., Camden, Del. / Caesar Rodney) a crack at the goal, but her shot was saved as well.
  • The Hornets eventually scored almost exactly midway through the first quarter as Mairead Mckibbin slipped one by Shindler. The hosts eventually made the score 2-0 as Kelsey Jones scored with just under six minutes left before halftime.
  • The Hornets made it 3-0 5:27 into the third quarter to keep the pressure on. They added three insurance goals in the fourth to set up the final score.
Inside The Numbers
  • Wilson was on defense for much of the night as Shenandoah controlled a 30-2 advantage on shots. Only 11 of the 30 were on target as the Phoenix defense held tight and did its best to prevent penetration.
  • Hailey Steele (So., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) was one of the players on the back line and recorded a defensive save for the Blue and Black.
  • Penalty corners were also limited for the Phoenix. They were allowed just one which came in the fourth quarter.
Up Next
