(FRONT ROYAL, Va.) – The Wilson women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a strong second half showing against Christendom on Wednesday afternoon.
Bailey Miller (Sr., Sterling, Va. / Washington) provided the offense as two early goals after halftime provided the difference.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 2, Christendom 0
Venue: Crusader Fields
Records: Wilson 1-2-1, Christendom 3-3
How It Happened
- The Phoenix controlled the pace of play for the majority of the game, but it was a little more even in the opening frame when the shot count was 5-2 in favor of Wilson. The Blue and Black had the better chances as all five were on target, but the Crusaders' keeper made stops on all of them.
- On the opposite end Christendom took just two attempts in the first, but both were wide of the goal.
- Everything changed at the start of the second as Miller took a pass near midfield and dribbled up the left side before delivering a strike to the right side of the goalie from just inside the box in the 47th minute.
- Six minutes later, Julia Mohler (Jr., Point of Rocks, Md. / Brunswick) provided just enough of a flick on a loose ball to find Miller once again. A similar shot proceeded to put the Phoenix up 2-0.
- Wilson kept the pressure on, but that was the last of the scoring for the day. Erin Rozkowiak (So., Cinnaminson, N.J. / Cinnaminson) and Rebecca Marakovitz (So., New Market, Md. / Linganore) combined for the clean sheet with Rozkowiak playing 70 minutes and making the lone save.
Inside The Numbers
- The Phoenix outshot the Crusaders 16-5 in the game, including an 11-3 margin in the second half.
- Of the 16 shots, all but three of them were on target for Wilson.
- Corners also heavily favored the Phoenix by a 7-0 margin.
