Field Hockey's Streak Comes To An End In Heartbreaker

(WESTMINSTER, Md.) – The historic Wilson field hockey regular season win streak came to an end in heartbreaking fashion as McDaniel scored an overtime victory on Tuesday evening. The loss snaps the Phoenix's 21 game that started in 2019 when they defeated Centenary 7-0 on November 2.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 1, McDaniel 2 (OT)

Venue: Gill Stadium

Records: Wilson 2-1, McDaniel 4-1

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix jumped on top first as they found the back of the goal early in the second quarter. Emma Bounds (So., Carlisle, Pa. / Boiling Springs) did the honors as she took the helper from Brea Kelso (So., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) who centered the ball from the left side.
  • Wilson had another close opportunity 30 seconds later, but a second shot by Bounds was saved.
  • The Phoenix had three penalty corners late in the third and two more in the fourth, but they couldn't convert as shots from Alexis Pflumm (Sr., Camden, Del. / Caesar Rodney) and Elizabeth Landon (Fr., West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove) were both saved.
  • As time ticked away, the Green Terror had one last opportunity with possession in their zone. Although the clock hit zeroes, Wilson couldn't clear and play resumed. Allyson Shindler (Sr., Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern) made a big save on the second of three shots, but the rebound stayed alive and McDaniel's Amy Richenderfer tied the game up at 1-1.
  • In the middle of the first overtime period, McDaniel took the frame's only shot and Dillan Williams scored the golden goal to give the hosts the win.
