How It Happened
- Rick Godwin Jr. (Sr., Largo, Md. / Largo / Southern Maryland) had the hot hands early as he hit three 3-pointers in the first 5:10 of the game as both teams went back and forth. The last of those made the score 13-11 and sparked a 15-2 run that gave the Phoenix the lead for good.
- He wasn't the only one getting in the shots from range as Gary Robertson (Jr., Washington D.C. / Potomac), Jordan Miles (Sr., Waldorf, Md. / Westlake), and Garib all found success at least once behind the arc in the first half. Robertson hit a pair of triples in a span of 75 seconds to give Wilson its largest lead of the game at 41-25 with 1:31 to go in the first half. The Phoenix eventually went into the halftime break up 43-30.
- Immaculata turned around and started using the outside shot to trim the deficit. The Macs opened up second with a 10-2 run that was capped by a Gregory Vlassopoulos 3-pointer that put the hosts within a pair of possessions at 45-40 with 15:49 to go. However, Wilson was able to push the lead back up to 12 following a dunk from Antonio Bussey (Sr., Aiken, S.C. / Aiken / Claflin) on a dish from Robertson.
- The Mighty Macs made one last push and was able to Wilson's lead down to two points on a couple of occasions late in the game. The last of those came after a Tim Schultice layup with 3:22 to go, but Garib answered on the opposite end with a 3-pointer, the only one for Wilson in the second half. The hosts were forced to foul the rest of the way and the Phoenix were nearly perfect from the charity stripe with nine points from there in the final two minutes.
