(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Rick Godwin Jr. (Sr., Largo, Md. / Largo) led a trio of players in double-figures and
Darryl Garib (Sr., Dallas, Texas / Forest Park) recorded a double-double as Wilson downed Shenandoah 74-53 on Wednesday evening. The Phoenix never trailed in the contest as they evened up their record on the season.
The Basics
Score: Wilson 74, Shenandoah 53
Venue: Gannett Field House
Records: Wilson 3-3, Shenandoah 2-5
How It Happened
- It was all Garib and Godwin early on as the duo helped Wilson build a 10-point lead in the first five minutes of the game. Garib opened up the game with a jumper and layup while Godwin drained a pair of 3-pointers before the Hornets eventually hit a trey to make it 10-3 with 14:34 to go in the first.
- Godwin wasn't done as the he swished three more triples to help Wilson build its lead to 19-7 with 10:29 to go in the half. A Jordan Miles (Sr., Waldorf, Md. / Westlake) 3-pointer later in the frame then put the Phoenix up 36-13 with 5:27 to go until the break. It ended up being their largest lead of the night.
- Shenandoah was able to fight back and cut its deficit to single digits at 37-29 by halftime. The momentum didn't last long, however, as Wilson started the second half almost the same way it started the first with the first nine points. Garib opened up the half with a jumper and a layup before Gary Robertson (Jr., Washington D.C. / Potomac) drove the lane and scored the unconventional three-point play as he was fouled on a layup and converted the ensuing free throw. He followed with a jumper that put the score at 46-29 with 16:58 to go in the game.
- The Hornets scored the next two buckets to make the score 46-34, but Garib answered back with a jumper in the paint to put the difference back at 14. It remained at least at 14 for the rest of the game.
Inside The Numbers
- Godwin was nearly unstoppable as he finished with a game-high 21 points. He was 7-of-12 from the field, including a blistering 5-of-8 behind the arc.
- While Godwin was hot outside, Garib kept things warm inside as he poured in 20 points, most of which came from the paint. He was 9-of-16 overall and pulled down 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
- Robertson pieced together an excellent game where he finished with 19 points for a new season-high. He was 8-for-14 and filled up the stat line with five rebounds and three assists.
- Ibraheem Bundu (So., Largo, Md. / CCBC Dundalk) also gave the Hornets problems inside as he reached double-figures in rebounds with 10, a new season-best.
- Overall Wilson outrebounded Shenandoah by a 42-31 margin.
- The 74 points are the most Wilson has scored in any game this season.
