(GETTYSBURG, Pa.) – A slow start doomed Wilson as it fell in the consolation game to Gettysburg in its own Tip-Off Classic by a score of 62-49 on Saturday afternoon. The Phoenix were able to bounce back and play an excellent second half, but the deficit was too much to make up.
Darryl Garib (Sr., Dallas, Texas / Forest Park) had an excellent game and was rewarded with a spot on the All-Tournament Team. He led the Phoenix with 19 points with most of them coming in the second half.
The Basics

How It Happened
- Gettysburg jumped out to an early 10-2 lead four minutes into the game before Garib hit his first bucket of the game on a 3-pointer. That made the score 10-5 with 15:19 to play in the first half, but unfortunately for Wilson, it was the closest it could get the rest of the way. The Bullets eventually pushed their lead to 21 later in the half before Devin Thomas (Jr., Waldorf, Md. / Westlake) closed the half with a jumper to make the score 32-13 at the break.
- Halftime adjustments proved pivotal as Wilson rallied in attempts to comeback. Three consecutive buckets by Garib helped trim Gettysburg's lead down to 34-21, and a pair of free throws by Garib made the score 36-25 with 13:32 to go. However the hosts answered with a 3-pointer and eventually pushed its lead back up to 18.
- Wilson made one last charge late in the game as a 7-0 run once again cut the deficit to 11 points. Thomas helped spark the run with a jumper to make it 60-45, and free throws by Garib and Thomas eventually made the score 60-49 before the Bullets put in the final field goal to set up the final score as time ran out.
