(GETTYSBURG, Pa.) – Rick Godwin Jr. (Sr., Largo, Md. / Largo / Southern Maryland) scored a game-high 16 points to lead Wilson in its season opener, but it wasn't enough as it fell to Eastern in the Gettysburg Tip-off Tournament on Friday. With the result, the Phoenix will take on tournament host Gettysburg Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- Wilson jumped out to a fast start and quickly took a 10-point lead within the first five minutes of the game. Godwin sparked the run with a layup and a 3-pointer en route to a 13-3 lead for the Phoenix. The Eagles eventually responded, however, and tied the game up at 19-all following a Nick Mate jumper in the paint with 9:34 to go in the first half.
- Transfer Marcus Stephens (Gr., Goldsboro, N.C. / C.D. Hylton / Virginia Wesleyan) provided another lift for the Phoenix shortly with a pair of buckets. After the Eagles took the lead, his jumper in the paint tied the game at 21-all. He proceeded to make a steal and went in for a fast break layup and a 23-21 lead.
- After another Eagles run, layups from Khalif Dickson (Jr., Hampton, Va. / Prince George) and Gary Robertson (Jr., Washington D.C. / Potomac) brought the Phoenix back to within four at 37-33. Another layup, this time from Ibraheem Bundu (So., Largo, Md. / CCBC Dundalk) made the score 39-35 before the Eagles extended their lead to 42-35 heading into halftime.
- Eastern started the second half strong with 11-0 run to make the score 53-35 to take control of the game. The Eagles pushed their lead to as many as 22, but the Phoenix didn't quit as they made a late push at the end before time ran out.
Inside The Numbers
- Godwin Jr. finished his game-high outing going 6-for-11 from the field. Roberson also finished in double figures and also hit 6-for-11 to tally 14 points.
- Eastern was led by Kevin Reeves who scored 12 points on 5-of-8 from the field.
- Wilson was exceptionally strong from the charity stripe hitting 19-of-23 attempts.
- Eastern won the rebounding battle by a 39-28 margin on the glass.
- Overall, Wilson hit 44.6% on shooting 25-of-56 from the field, but Eastern clipped the nets at a 50% rate after making 32-of-64 from the field.
- Bundu and Darryl Garib (Sr., Dallas, Texas / Forest Park) tied four Eagles players for game-high honors in rebounds with six.
