Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts Field Hockey Over Falcons

(ALLENTOWN, Pa.) – A pair of late goals helped Wilson win its CSAC opener in a road contest at Cedar Crest on Saturday afternoon. The game remained scoreless until the Phoenix were able to score both goals in the fourth quarter for the victory.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 2, Cedar Crest 0

Venue: FalconPlex

Records: Wilson 5-3, 1-0; Cedar Crest 4-7, 1-2

How It Happened
  • In a rematch of last year's CSAC tournament championship, defense was the name of the game as shots were limited early on. The only opportunities came on Wilson's offensive end as the Phoenix took the only two shots of the first quarter.
  • Both offenses picked up in the second frame as Wilson held a 3-2 advantage in shots. Both teams each had one take on target, but Allyson Shindler (Sr., Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern) made the save for the Phoenix while Kendall Heiney provided the stop for the Falcons. Both teams added another shot on goal in the third with both keepers making the save.
  • Abigail Rosenberry (Sr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) eventually broke the tie midway through the fourth quarter as she scored with 8:39 to go in the game. The offense remained on the attack and added an insurance goal off of Brea Kelso's (So., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensburg) stick for the 2-0 decision.
Inside The Numbers
  • Rosenberry's score was her fifth of the season, while Kelso notched her seventh of the year.
  • Wilson outshot the Falcons by a 10-6 count and a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Corners also favored the Phoenix as they took 14 compared to just seven for the Falcons. The bulk of them came in the final frame where Wilson took eight alone.
  • Shindler played the complete game to pick up her third shutout of the season.
  • This is the fourth consecutive victory over Cedar Crest for the Phoenix. It's also their second-straight shutout after defeating the Falcons 3-0 in last year's CSAC championship game.
  • Since 2016, all but two games have been decided by two goals or less in the series between Wilson and Cedar Crest.
