Pflumm Tricks Sweet Briar, Treats Field Hockey To Win

(SWEET BRIAR, Va.) – A huge first half that included three first-quarter goals helped Wilson take a regular season sweep of Sweet Briar on Saturday afternoon. Alexis Pflumm (Sr., Camden, Del. / Caesar Rodney) was the main catalyst of the offense as she chalked up a hat trick and assisted on a fourth goal.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 5, Sweet Briar 2

Venue: Thayer Turf Field

Records: Wilson 6-3, 2-0; Sweet Briar 4-7, 0-2

How It Happened
  • In the first meeting between the two teams, it took over 55 minutes for Wilson to break a scoreless tie. This time around it took just 4:07 as Pflumm sparked a high-octane offense with her first goal. She was just getting started as she assisted Paige Ney's (Fy., Biglerville, Pa. / Biglerville) in the ninth minute of the game. Just 57 seconds later, Pflumm found the back of the goal once again for her second of the game.
  • Wilson kept the pressure on in the second quarter, but the Phoenix were held scoreless until the final minute. Abigail Rosenberry (Sr., Shippensburg, Pa. / Shippensbur) did the honors this time and score with 24 seconds before the half to give the visitors a 4-0 lead.
  • The Vixens avoided the shutout with a goal midway through the third, but Pflumm was able to answer with her third of the game on a helper from Elizabeth Landon (Fy., West Grove, Pa. / Avon Grove). Sweet Briar scored two minutes later to set up the final score.
Inside The Numbers
  • Pflumm had one of the best games of her career and was a goal shy of her personal best game which came earlier this year against Ferrum. She now has seven goals on the season.
  • Ney's goal was her team-best eighth of the year. Rosenberry now has four.
  • Allyson Shindler (Sr., Manchester, Pa. / Northeastern) recorded the win between the pipes and made five saves.
  • The Phoenix outshot the Vixens 24-13 overall and held a 15-7 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Corners were relatively even with the Vixens owning a 9-8 advantage.
