Menedis Leads Phoenix In Loss To Rosemont

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – The Wilson women's volleyball team hosted Rosemont on Wednesday evening, but wasn't able to recreate Saturday's success as the Phoenix fell to the Ravens in three sets. Deah Menedis (So., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) once again led the team offensively and was among the defensive leaders as well.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 0, Rosemont 3 (25-13, 25-7. 25-17)

Venue: Gannett Field House

Records: Wilson 1-15, 1-1; Rosemont 4-8, 1-1;

How It Happened
  • Wilson appeared to come out with all cylinders running as it took an early 3-1 lead thanks to a pair of Niki Schussler (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian) aces, but the Ravens were quick to tie the set. Menedis put the Phoenix up once more at 4-3 with a kill, but Rosemont went on an 8-0 run to take control of the game.
  • After falling in the second set, the Phoenix looked to get some momentum back in the third. Consecutive kills from Menedis and Allyson Garcelon (Fy., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) helped as it put Wilson up 4-2. However, a 5-0 run by the Ravens once again gave them the advantage. Wilson chipped away through the rest of the night, but couldn't regain the lead.
Inside The Numbers
  • Menedis led the offense with seven kills. She added seven digs to be among the Phoenix leaders defensively as well. She did cause some problems for the Ravens up front as she blocked two attacks.
  • Schussler and Alexis Buckley (So., Millsboro, Del. / Indian River) led the team defensively by picking up eight digs each.
  • Jenna Dixon (Fy., California, Pa. / California) set up the attack with nine assists.
Up Next
The Phoenix will look to rebound against Cairn at home this Saturday. Opening serve is set for 1 p.m.
