Phoenix Fall To Penn State-Altoona

(CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.) – Wilson concluded its non-conference portion of the season by hosting Penn State-Altoona in women's volleyball on Tuesday evening. In the end it was the Nittany Lions who had the Phoenix's number with a 3-0 decision.

The Basics

Score: Wilson 0, Penn State-Altoona 3 (25-7, 25-11, 25-7)

Venue: Gannett Field House

Records: Wilson 1-17; Penn State-Altoona 4-9

How It Happened
  • Kills by Karyssa Faith (Fy., Clear Spring, Md. / Saint Maria Goretti) and Deah Menedis (So., Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin) gave Wilson an early 2-1 lead at the start, but the Nittany Lions quickly turned the set around and used an 8-0 rally to take a 12-3 lead. The Phoenix tried to right the ship by taking three of five points midway though, but they could get no closer as Altoona took a 1-0 lead.
  • Another Menedis kill tied the game at 2-2 in the second set, but the visitors again went on a run to take control of the game. Menedis spiked down another attack to spark a small 3-0 run before the Lions closed out the set.
  • A fast start by Altoona opened the third before Wilson had its best stretch of the day with a 4-0 run. Allyson Garcelon (Fy., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) bookended both sides of it with a block assisted by Menedis and followed up with an ace. PSU-Altoona then went on an 8-0 run en route to finishing the set and completing the sweep.
Inside The Numbers
  • Defensively Alexis Buckley (So., Millsboro, Del. / Indian River) led the team and was one dig shy of double figures.
  • Garcelon finished with two blocks on the day.
  • Menedis led the offense with four kills.
