How It Happened
- As aforementioned Wilson opened up with a 10-0 lead. Alexis Buckley (So., Millsboro, Del. / Indian River) sparked the rally with three aces during the run and forced the Patriots to call an early timeout. The two teams nearly were even over the 16 points, but Wilson was able to close out the set in style. A kill Karyssa Faith (Fy., Clear Spring, Md. / Saint Maria Goretti) helped put a 7-1 run in motion which was capped by an Allyson Garcelon (FY., Shrewsbury, Pa. / Susquehannock) kill to secure the 1-0 lead.
- The second set played much closer, but again the Phoenix finished the set with dominance. Serving helped push Wilson along in this game as it tallied 10 of them. Five of them alone came from Jenna Dixon (Fy., California, Pa. / California) as she helped turn a 7-4 deficit into an 11-7 lead. The game still remained close as a pair of Patriot points made the score 16-14 in favor of the Phoenix, but Wilson closed out the set with the final nine points. This time Garcelon did the serving honors with five aces in the final rally for the 2-0 lead.
- Valley Forge took the first point of the third, but Wilson never trailed again after that. The turning point in the set was a 5-0 run by the Phoenix that put the score at 15-6 as kills by Niki Schussler (So., Chambersburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley Christian), Deah Menedis (Reisterstown, Md. / Franklin), and Garcelon sparked the rally. Wilson also didn't allow Valley Forge to score consecutive points the entire match until the Phoenix were playing for the potential match point which it earned on a Patriot service error.
