PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. - The Wilson women's basketball looked to continue their three-game Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) winning streak this evening against the Patriots of the Valley Forge University earlier this evening. The Phoenix hung tough; but could not hold on, falling to the Patriots by a score of 81-42.
How It Happened: Valley Forge got the game started with a three, but Wilson responded with seven unanswered points that put them 7-3 in the early going. During the opening run, senior
Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) chipped in two layups while junior
Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) drilled a shot from deep that helped extend the lead. The Patriots crept their way back and eventually took the lead, 17-12, with just over three minutes left in the opening quarter. The Phoenix managed to close out the quarter on a 7-4 run, cutting their deficit to two points, 21-19, going into the second. Valley Forge opened up the next quarter with a layup, but Wilson responded right back, keeping them within two points. After this, the Patriots started to gain some momentum and extended their lead out to 13 points with four and a half minutes left in the half. Wilson went into halftime trailing by a score of 36-25.
In the third quarter of action, the Phoenix offense started to fight their way back, scoring some buckets early on. Wilson continued trying to gain some ground late, but Valley Forge walked into the fourth quarter leading, 61-38. Despite the effort, the Phoenix dropped this game by a final score of 81-42.
Inside the Box Score: Junior
Naomi Hanton (Bristow, Va., Keystone College) fueled the offense with 13 points, one shy of her season-high. Junior
Amanda Smida (Landenberg, Pa., Penn State Harrisburg) and
Posiulai chipped in eight points apiece and combined for 11 total rebounds. Senior
Baylen Snyder (Dover, PA, Dover Area) added five points, while senior
Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) and
Murphy each added four. The Wilson bench chipped in 18 points tonight, outscoring their opponent bench by one point.
