Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Grounds Eagles

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team looked to remain perfect in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play as they squared off against the Eagles of Saint Elizabeth University earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (11-4, 7-0 CSAC) grounded the Eagles (3-11, 3-3 CSAC), defeating them by a final score of 70-47.

How It Happened: Junior Warrick Godwin Jr. (Largo, MD, College of So. MD) got the scoring started with a deep three in the opening minutes of play. After junior Darryl Garib (Dallas, TX., Forest Park) came up with a steal on the ensuing possession, he connected on a layup on the other end of the court to put Wilson up 5-0 early. Saint Elizabeth started chipping away and eventually cut the lead to just one point, 9-8. Immediately after, the Phoenix sparked a 26 point spurt that expanded their lead to 25-8 with just over eight and half minutes in the first half. During the run, Godwin Jr. and junior Jordan Miles (Waldorf, MD., Westlake) each connected on shots from beyond the arc to help increase the lead. Both teams traded points for the next eight minutes as Wilson walked into halftime leading by 17 points, 38-21. Early in the second half, the Phoenix started a 17 point run that increased their lead to 62-25 with just under 12 minutes remaining. Wilson went on to earn the victory by a final score of 70-47.

Inside the Box Score: Godwin Jr. paced the offense with 23 points. Garib came up one rebound short of a double-double, finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds, while senior Adrian Thomas (Germantown, MD., Northwest HS) came up with his second double-double of the season, tallying 12 points and ten rebounds. Miles and junior Jeremiah Carter-Johnson (Richmond, VA., Mills E. Godwin) closed out the game with six points apiece. The Phoenix dominated in the paint, outscoring their opponent 40-20. Wilson also controlled second-chance opportunities, outscoring the Eagles 17-2.

Up Next: The men's basketball team will close out non-conference play on Monday, January 24, as they get set to take on the Green Terror of McDaniel College (7-7, 3-6 CC) at 7:30 p.m.
