CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team continued Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with a game against the Ravens of Rosemont College earlier this evening. The Phoenix (8-4, 4-0 CSAC) fought hard and narrowly squeaked by the Ravens (5-9, 4-2 CSAC) by a final score of 66-63 in overtime.
How It Happened: Wilson started the game off on an 8-2 run. Junior
Warrick Godwin Jr. (Largo, MD, College of So. MD) hit the first three-pointer followed, by junior
Jordan Miles (Waldorf, MD., Westlake) who knocked down the second. The Phoenix continued to push the score, eventually extending their lead to 24-7 with just under eight minutes left in the first half. This sparked a 16-6 run from the Ravens that cut their deficit to 30-23 going into halftime.
Opening up the second half, Rosemont continued to chip away at the lead until they were within one point, 34-33. Shortly after, the Ravens knotted the game up at 44 apiece with just over ten and a half minutes left. Both teams stayed neck and neck for the rest of regulation. Wilson took a two-point lead with fifty-five seconds left, but Rosemont knocked down two foul shots to tie the game at 58 apiece at the end of regulation.
In overtime, the Phoenix took the first two points but, the Ravens responded right back with three made foul shots, giving them a one-point lead. This sparked two quick shot's from Wilson that flipped the score and put them on top by three points. The Phoenix went on to win by a final score of 66-63 in overtime.
Inside the Box Score: Godwin Jr led both teams with 20 points. Freshman
Darren Green (Silver Spring, MD, Springbrook HS) added 13 points and seven rebounds, junior
Antonio Bussey (Aiken, SC, Claflin Univ.) tallied 11 points and seven rebounds, while senior
Adrian Thomas (Germantown, MD., Northwest HS) grabbed 11 points. Junior
Darryl Garib (Dallas, TX., Forest Park) led the team with 11 rebounds. Wilson finished the game shooting 45% from the floor while holding their opponent to 41%. Once again, the bench comes up in a big way for Wilson, totaling 24 points in the game.
