CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's soccer team opened up their season this afternoon with a non-conference match against Bobcats of the University of Pittsburg at Greensburg. The Phoenix fell to the Bobcats by a final score of 6-0.
How It Happened: Both teams started the first half out by battling. Greensburg managed to secure the first two corner kicks of the match, but the Wilson defense stepped up big and shut down any chance for a shot. Shortly after, the Bobcats fired off two shots but both were saved by freshman goalkeeper
Rebecca Marakovitz. After a hard-fought first half, the Phoenix were tied at 0-0. Opening up the second half, Greensburg eventually cracked Wilson's defense with a goal in the 47th minute, bringing the score to 1-0. Despite a valiant effort, the Bobcats would go on to take the match by a final score of 6-0.
Inside the Box Score: Marakovitz finished the match with a total of four saves while freshman
Rachel Coulter (Woodbridge, VA, Gar-field) led the team in shots.
Up Next: The Phoenix will look to bounce back on Wednesday, September 8, at 4:30 p.m. as they get set to take on the Vixens of Sweet Briar College on the road.
