CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team took on the Lions of Penn State Harrisburg in non-conference action this evening. The Phoenix (0-2, 0-0 CSAC) were defeated by the Lions (5-1, 0-0 NEAC) by a final score of three sets to none, with set scores of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-10.
How It Happened: In the first set, Harrisburg jumped out to an 11-5 lead before Wilson started to chip away. Later in the set, with the Lions still in the lead, the Phoenix jumped on a 5-0 run to pull within three points, 16-13. Shortly after, Wilson jumped on another 5-0 run to even the match up at 18 apiece. The two opponents continued to battle until the Lions took the first set, 25-23. In the second set, Penn State hopped out to a 9-3 lead early on. The Phoenix kept things close and cut the deficit to three points, but the Lions took the set, 25-14. Penn State would go on to take the third set by a score of 25-10.
Inside the Box Score: Junior
Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School) paced Wilson with a total of nine kills and a hitting percentage of .318. Freshman
Deah Menedis (Reisterstown, MD, Franklin High) tallied five kills while freshmen
Sage Lague (Fairplay, MD, Goretti) and
Niki Schussler (Chambersburg, PA, Cumberland Valley Christian) finished with three and two kills, respectively. Altogether, the Phoenix finished with 19 kills on 69 attempts against 18 errors while their opponent gathered 39 kills on 82 attempts against 21 errors.
