ARLINGTON, Va. - The Wilson College men's soccer team traveled to Marymount University earlier today, as they faced the Saints in nonconference action. The Phoenix (0-3-0, 0-0-0 CSAC) were defeated by the Saints (3-3-0, 0-0-0 AEC) by a final score of 4-0.
How It Happened: The Wilson defense got to work early in this one as Marymount fired off a shot less than two minutes into the match. Junior
Billy Merk (Macungie, PA, Lehigh Carbon Community College) gathered the save to keep things even.
Merk and the Phoenix defense continued to ward off the Saints' attack until the 33rd minute when Marymount took a 1-0 lead. The Saints would take a 4-0 lead going into halftime. In the second half, Wilson stepped up their defensive pressure and stonewalled the Marymount offense. Despite a strong defensive showing in the second half, the Phoenix would fall to the Saints, 4-0.
Inside the Box Score: Merk was masterful in the match, collecting seven saves, while sophomore
Connor Bowers (Hagerstown, MD, North Hagerstown High School) led the team in shots.
Up Next: The men's soccer team will hit the road again for a match against Shenandoah University on Saturday, September 18, at 1:00 p.m.
