Softball Sweeps Penn State Altoona

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College softball team was in action this afternoon as they faced off against the Lady Lions of Penn State Altoona. The Phoenix (9-1, 4-0 CSAC) swept the Lady Lions (3-4-1) by scores of 2-1 in the first game and 11-3 in the second. 

Game One: Sophomore Makenna Snodgrass (Flagstaff, AZ., Flagstaff) started on the bump for Wilson, as she retired the top of the first with no damage done. In the bottom of the first, senior Katey Roth (Lebanon, PA., Lebanon) added the first run of the game off an RBI single to left field. Skipping ahead to the bottom of the third, the Phoenix added another run. This time it was senior Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) who slapped in a run off an RBI single, bringing the score to 2-0. Later on, in the fifth inning, Altoona added one run off a homer to deep left field. Senior Megan Potter (Hagerstown, MD., South Hagerstown) came in to close things out in the sixth as Wilson took game one by a score of 2-1. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson scored two runs on seven hits with no errors while their opponent scored one run on seven hits with one error. Snodgrass threw for five-inning, striking out three batters, on her way to earning her second win of the season. Potter gets credit for the save, pitching two innings and striking out four. Junior Jessica Kosheba (Marietta, PA., Donegal) led the charge offensively, hitting 2-3. Roth finished going 1-3 with one RBI while Bradley went 1-2 with an RBI and a walk. 

Game Two: Sophomore Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester) got the nod in game two, as she retired the top of the first in order. In the bottom half, Glazer helped her cause by hitting an RBI single that scored the first run of the game. Later on, in the bottom of the second, Wilson added two mores off an RBI triple from sophomore Alyssa Wenger (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg). The runs continued to pile up for Wilson, as they managed to score two more runs in the third. The first run off a double to left from Bradley while the other run came off a single up the middle from sophomore Taylor Barker (Chehalis, WA., WF West).

Altoona started to gain some momentum in the fourth inning, scoring three runs off four hits. The Phoenix, however, responded with six runs in the bottom of the fifth, giving them the 11-3 victory. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson scored 11 runs on nine hits with one error while their opponents finished with three runs on seven hits with two errors. Glazer threw for five innings, striking out five batters and earning her third win of the year. Freshman Haiden Brookens (Chambersburg, PA, Chambersburg Magnet ) finished hitting 2-3 with one run and one RBI while Jessica Kosheba (Marietta, PA., Donegal) finished hitting 2-2 with two runs and one RBI. 

Up Next: The softball team will take on Cedar Crest College in CSAC action on Saturday, April 10, at noon.
