CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team was in action today as they faced off against the Gators of Notre Dame of Maryland University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. The Phoenix (1-4, 1-2 CSAC) were defeated by the Gators (4-0, 4-0 CSAC) by a final score of 17-7.
How It Happened: Less than a minute into the game, Notre Dame found the back of the net. A few minutes later, the Gators struck again, bringing the score to 2-0 less than five minutes into the game. Wilson narrowed the gap to just one with a goal off a free position attempt from freshman
Megan Simms (Frederick, MD, Governor Thomas Johnson HS). Later on in the half, after another goal from the Gators, junior
Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) cut the lead to 4-2 off a goal assisted from sophomore
Abigail Rosenberry (Shippensburg, PA., Shippensburg). After Notre Dame notched another goal the Phoenix continued to respond with another goal. This time it was
Singer again who beat the keeper, assisted by senior
Lauren Rettew (Lancaster, PA, Lampeter Strasburg HS), bringing the score to 5-3.
Both teams continued to trade goals with each other as the Gators added another goal. Wilson, once again, responded back. Sophomore
Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High School) took advantage of a man-up situation and rocketed a shot, assisted by freshman
Anna Gibson (Cecil County, MD, Perryville HS), past the keeper. Shortly after,
Singer found the back of the net for her second hat trick in two games, putting the Phoenix one point behind, 6-5. Notre Dame, however, added one more goal before the half, putting them in front, 7-5.
After the Gators started the half out with five unanswered goals, Wilson stopped the run with a goal coming from
Gibson. Notre Dame would add two more goals before
Singer found her fourth goal of the night, cutting the deficit to 14-7. The Gators went on to add three more goals as they would take this one by a final score of 17-7.
