Women's Lacrosse Grounds Falcons

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team squared off against the Falcons of Cedar Crest College earlier today in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. The Phoenix (2-3, 2-1 CSAC) defeated the Falcons (0-2, 0-2 CSAC) by a score of 17-6.

How It Happened: The Phoenix wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as sophomore Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High School) picked up a ground ball and ripped a shot that found the back of the net less than two minutes into the match. A goal by the Falcons a couple of minutes later tied it at 1-1. Less than a minute later, freshman Megan Simms (Frederick, MD, Governor Thomas Johnson HS) converted a free position attempt to put the visitors up 2-1. Over the next twelve minutes, the Phoenix would rattle off 7 straight goals to push the lead to 9-1 and 4 of those goals came from the stick of freshman Anna Gibson (Cecil County, MD, Perryville HS). Later in the half, Reynolds would tack on another goal as the Phoenix headed into the break with a commanding 10-3 advantage. Three straight goals by senior Lauren Rettew (Lancaster, PA, Lampeter Strasburg HS) opened the second half scoring for the Phoenix. The Falcons tried to get back into it with back-to-back goals at the midpoint of the half, however the Phoenix responded with goals by senior Danielle Stafford (Jessup, MD., Glen Burnie) and the fourth goals of the match by Gibson and Retew respectively to push the score to 16-5. The Phoenix would tally one final goal as junior Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) would score with an assist from Gibson to make the final score 17-6.

Inside the Box Score: Retew and Gibaons led the offensive attack with 4 goals each. Sophomore Abigail Rosenberry (Shippensburg, PA., Shippensburg) had a team high 2 assists and tied Simms with a team high 6 draw controls. The Phoenix out shot the Falcons 36-14 and held a 13-12 edge in draw controls.

Up Next: Wilson will hit the road on Tuesday for a CSAC match-up with Keystone College.
