Softball Dominates Defenders

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College softball team closed out their regular season against Defenders of Clarks Summit University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader, earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (22-3, 17-2 CSAC) swept the Defenders (5-21, 4-14 CSAC) by a score of 9-0 in game one and 14-0 in both game two.

Game One: Graduate student Megan Potter (Hagerstown, MD., South Hagerstown) started game one on the mound, striking out two in a pedestrian top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, Wilson got the scoring started with a two-run homer to right-center off the bat of sophomore Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester). Later on, in the bottom of the second, the Phoenix added another run off another home run. This time, senior Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, PA., Greencastle-Antrim) slapped a homer to the right field that put Wilson up 3-0. In the bottom of the third, senior Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) drove in a pair of runs off a double to center field. Later on in the inning, Carty slapped a two-run shot to center field that put the Phoenix in front, 7-0. Later on, in the fourth inning, Wilson added two more runs off a single from sophomore Kaesey Greene (Taneytown, MD, Francis Scott Key) as the Phoenix would walk away from game one with a win, 9-0 after five innings. 

Inside the Box Score: Carty caps off her monster game going 2-2 with three RBIs, two runs, and two homers.  Glazer finished 1-1 with two runs, two RBIs, a home run, and a double, while Greene went 1-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Potter threw for five innings, striking out nine and only letting up two hits on her way to her twelfth win of the season. For game one, Wilson scored nine runs on eight hits with one error. 

Game Two: Sophomore Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester) started in the circle for Wilson, as she retired the top of the first in order, striking out two batters. The Phoenix got the bats working in the bottom of the first, scoring four runs on three hits. Glazer continued to deal in the top of the second, working out of a jam by striking out two batters with two runners on to close out the side. Later on, in the bottom half of the inning, the Wilson offense scored seven runs on three hits and four errors, putting them on top, 12-0. Skipping to the bottom of the third, freshmen Nadia Mitrovich (E. Manchester, PA, Northeastern) and Haley Privett (Fayetteville, PA, Chambersburg Magnet ) drove in a pair of runs as the Phoenix would go on to win game two by a final score of 14-0 in five innings.  

Inside the Box Score: Sophomore Taylor Barker (Chehalis, WA., WF West) capped off game two going 2-3 with three runs, while Bradley went 2-2 with three runs and an RBI. Privett added two hits with two RBIs, one run, and one walk. Glazer snags win number five on the season, striking out eight in five innings and only letting up three hits.
