Potter Records 600th K as Phoenix Wrangle Gators

Baltimore, MD. - Wilson College softball pitcher Megan Potter (Hagerstown, MD., South Hagerstown) recorded her 600th career strikeout during game one of a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) double header sweep of Notre Dame of Maryland University. The Phoenix (19-3, 14-2 CSAC) won game one by a 6-0 mark and game two by a 24-2 margin over the Gators (1-13 CSAC).

How It Happened Game 1: After a quiet first couple of innings, the Phoenix jumped on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the third. Sophomore Alyssa Wenger (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) led off with an infield single and stole second. An RBI double from freshman Haiden Brookens (Chambersburg, PA, Chambersburg Magnet ) pushed across the first run. Sophomore Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester) followed with an RBI double of her own to make the score 2-0. A couple of more runs came across for the Phoenix in the fourth inning with the help of an error by the Gators and an RBI sacrifice fly from sophomore Makenna Snodgrass (Flagstaff, AZ., Flagstaff) to extend the lead to 4-0. The Phoenix added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but the story of the game was Potter's performance in the circle. Potter was perfect in the circle through six innings and was seeking her second career perfect game, the first of which came against Cedar Crest College in 2019. In the seventh inning, Potter struck out Maci Lopez for career strikeout number 600. She followed with another strikeout and on a 2-2 count gave up an infield single to break up the perfect game bid. Potter would go on to strikeout the final batter for the Gators and record her second no-hitter of the season.

Inside the Box Score Game 1: Wenger and sophomore Alecia Hamilton (Canton, OH., Glenoak) led the offense with 3 hits each. Brookens paced the team with 2 RBI. Potter currently ranks 4th nationally in the NCAA active career strikeouts ranking.

How It Happened Game 2: The Phoenix offense erupted for 15 hits and took advantage of 8 Gators errors to win 24-2 in 5 innings. The offense tallied 4 runs in each of the first three innings and added 6 runs in both the fifth and sixth innings. Sophomore Taylor Barker (Chehalis, WA., WF West) sparked the offense with a 3-for-4 performance that included two home runs and 5 RBI. Senior Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) joined the hit parade with a 3-for-5 outing that included a home run and 5 RBI. Wenger, senior Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, PA., Greencastle-Antrim), and freshman Haley Privett (Fayetteville, PA , Chambersburg Magnet ) each had multiple hits in the game.

Inside the Box Score Game 2: Freshman pitcher Naomi Butterfield (Nampa, ID, Timberline High School) got her first start in the circle and allowed just 2 hits and struck out 6 in 5 innings of work for her first collegiate win.

Up Next: The Phoenix close out the regular season at home on Friday with a CSAC double header versus Clarks Summit with game one at 3pm.
