CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College softball team took on the Highlander of Cairn University earlier today in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader. The Phoenix (17-3, 12-2 CSAC) defeated the Highlanders (8-14, 6-8 CSAC) in both games by scores of 11-0 and 8-0.
Game One: Graduate Student
Megan Potter (Hagerstown, MD., South Hagerstown) started in the circle for Wilson in game one as she put down the top of the first without trouble. In the bottom half of the inning, the Phoenix scored the first run of the game off a sacrifice from senior
Katey Roth (Lebanon, PA., Lebanon). Skipping ahead, to the bottom of the third, Wilson's offense turned things up by knocking in six runs, putting them way out in front, 7-0. The Phoenix would go on to win game one by a final score of 11-0 after five innings of play.Â
Inside the Box Score: Senior
Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) had a huge senior day, hitting a perfect 3-3 with two runs, two RBIs, and a double. Sophomore
Taylor Barker (Chehalis, WA., WF West) also had a big game, finishing hitting 2-3 with three RBIs, two runs, and a home run to right-center field.
Potter struck out seven on her way to earning her tenth win of the season. Altogether, Wilson totaled 11 runs on 10 hits with no errors while holding their opponents to zero runs on two hits with four errors.Â
Game Two: Sophomore
Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester) got the nod in the circle in game two, striking out one in the top of the first without allowing any runs. Later on, in the bottom of the second inning, the Phoenix grabbed two runs off an RBI double from senior
Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, PA., Greencastle-Antrim). In the bottom of the fourth,
Carty added another run with a solo shot that put Wilson up 3-0. Moving ahead to the top of the fifth, the Phoenix scored two more runs as they would go on to win game two by a final score of 8-0 in six innings.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson scored eight runs on 12 hits with zero errors while their opponent finished with zero runs on five hits with two errors.
Carty led the charge offensively, finishing hitting a perfect 2-2 with four RBIs, one run, one homer, and one double. Freshman
Haiden Brookens (Chambersburg, PA, Chambersburg Magnet ) added two RBIs while finishing hitting 1-3 and a stolen base.
Glazer struck out three on her way to earning her fourth victory of the season.Â
