Phoenix Split Series with Giants

LA, PLUME, Pa. - The Wilson College softball team squared off against the Giants of Keystone College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader, earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (15-3, 10-2 CSAC) split the series with the Giants (12-4, 12-2 CSAC). winning the first game by a score of 3-1 and dropping the second game by a score of 5-4.

Game One: In the top of the first, Wilson tallied a hit but could not get any runs. Keystone scored a run off a home run in the bottom half of the inning, putting them ahead 1-0. Later on, in the top of the second inning, the Phoenix tied the game off an RBI double from senior Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, PA., Greencastle-Antrim). Shortly after, Wilson added another run off a sacrifice fly from junior Jessica Kosheba (Marietta, PA., Donegal), which put the Phoenix ahead, 2-1. Moving ahead, to the top of the third, Wilson tallied another insurance run. This time, senior Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) scored a run off an error from the Giants. After the inning, senior Megan Potter (Hagerstown, MD., South Hagerstown) went to work, only allowing one more hit for the rest of the contest as the Phoenix would go on to take game one by a score of 3-1. 

Inside the Box Score: Potter racked up her ninth win of the season on her way to striking out 12 batters and only letting up two hits. Carty and freshman Haiden Brookens (Chambersburg, PA, Chambersburg Magnet ) both finished the game going a perfect 2-2 with two walks, Carty also added one RBI and a double. Kosheba finished the game hitting 1-3 with one RBI, a double, and a stolen base. Wilson tallied three runs on seven hits with no errors while Keystone added one run on two hits with four errors. 

Game 2: After a quiet first inning from both teams, the Phoenix struck first in the second inning. Sophomore Alecia Hamilton (Canton, OH., Glenoak) slapped in two runs off an RBI double to center field, putting Wilson up 2-0. Keystone nabbed a run back at the bottom of the inning, cutting their deficit to 2-1. Later on in the top of the fourth, sophomore Alyssa Wenger (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) added a run with a home run. Later on in the inning, senior Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) drove in a run that put the Phoenix up 4-2. Keystone managed to earn another run back in the bottom of the inning, bringing the score to 4-3. The Giants managed to win the game off a walk-off triple to left field that drove in two runs, giving them the game 5-4.

Inside the Box Score: Sophomore Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester) finished hitting 2-3 with one run while Hamilton also went 2-3 with two RBIs. Wilson scored four runs on eight hits with two errors while their opponents finished with five runs on 10 hits with one error. 

Up Next: The softball team will continue CSAC play as they get set to take on Cairn University tomorrow, April 24, in a doubleheader series starting at noon.
