Phoenix Topped in Overtime

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's lacrosse team closed out their regular season this afternoon as they took on the Lions on Bryn Athyn College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play by a score of 6-5 in an overtime thriller. 

How It Happened: Wilson struck first just over two minutes into the game as freshman Anna Gibson (Cecil County, MD, Perryville HS) scored the first goal of the day. Thirty seconds later, Bryn Athyn evened things up at one apiece. Later on in the half, the Phoenix took advantage of a man-up situation as Gibson found her second goal of the game, putting the Phoenix up 2-1. With just over three minutes left in the half, Wilson scored again. This time, sophomore Paige Reynolds (Keedysville, MD, Boonsboro High School) scored on a free position shot, as the Phoenix marched into halftime leading, 3-1. 

Just over thirty seconds into the second half, the Lions narrowed the game with a goal. A few minutes later, they were able to even things up at three apiece. Almost ten minutes later, Gibson scored her third goal of the match, putting Wilson back on top, 4-3. Later on, with just over ten minutes left, Reynolds scored her second goal, extending the Phoenix lead to 5-3. About three minutes later, Bryn Athyn managed to score two quick goals that would take us into overtime tied up at 5-5. The Lions managed to win the game in overtime by a final score of 6-5. 

Inside the Box Score: Gibson tallied her third hat trick of the season, finishing with three goals and three points on the match. Reynolds finished with two goals. Freshman goalie Kyah Peifer (Lancaster, PA, Hempfield HS) wrapped up the game with seven saves while freshman Megan Simms (Frederick, MD, Governor Thomas Johnson HS) finished with one assist. 

Up Next: Wilson finishes the regular season third overall in CSAC standings. They will take on Bryn Athyn again in the CSAC semi-finals on Wednesday, April 21, at 4:30 pm.
