CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team was in action today as they played host to the Knights of Neumann University. The Phoenix (1-6, 0-2 CSAC) were defeated by the Knights (4-2) three sets to nil (25-23, 25-13, 25-18. Today was also Senior Day for the men's volleyball program as they honored their lone senior,
Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary).
How It Happened: Wilson started on a 5-1 run before Neumann evened things up at five apiece. Later in the set, with the Phoenix in the lead, the Knights started a 7-1 run that flipped the score and put them on top, 16-14. Wilson was not deterred as they kept their composure and knotted the match up at 20 all. The two opponents finished the set out by trading points, but Neumann was able to walk away with the win in set one, 25-23.
In the second set, the Phoenix jumped out to a 6-2 lead early on. The Knights, once again, marched back and tied things up at eight points apiece. After trading points, Neumann hopped on a 10 point run as they would close out the set by a score of 25-13.
Wilson started the third set out on top early on. The Knights started to chip away until they found themselves out in front, 13-10. The Phoenix kept things rolling offensively but could not complete the late set rally as they went on to drop the third set by a score of 25-18.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson totaled 15 kills on 89 attempts against 28 errors while their opponent finished with 30 kills on 86 attempts on 13 errors.
Perry racked up 11 digs, seven kills, four assists, and three aces. Freshman
Jeremiah Carter-Johnson (Richmond, VA., Mills E. Godwin) tallied four kills, four digs, one block assist, and one ace. Junior
Shae Cardenas (Torrance, CA.) added seven digs, two kills, two blocks, and one assist.
Up Next: The men's volleyball team will take on Saint Elizabeth University on Saturday, April 17, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match starting at 1:00 pm.
