Softball Takes Two on the Road

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. - The Wilson College softball team hit the road to open up conference play this afternoon against the Patriots of the University of Valley Forge in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. The Phoenix (4-0, 4-0 CSAC) beat the Patriots (0-2, 0-2 CSAC) in a doubleheader by scores of 18-0 and 14-0. 

Game One: In the top of the first inning, it didn't take long for the Blue and White to get started. Sophomore Alyssa Wenger (Chambersburg, PA., Chambersburg) scored the first run off a wild pitch; followed by senior Meghan Bradley (Warrington, PA., Central Bucks South) who knocked two runs in on a single to center field, making it 3-0. Shortly after, senior Jenna Carty (Chambersburg, PA., Greencastle-Antrim) drove in one run on an RBI groundout, bringing the score to 4-0.

After an impressive first appearance, senior Megan Potter (Hagerstown, MD., South Hagerstown) took the mound in the bottom of the first for Wilson, striking out all three batters in order. The Phoenix continued to put up runs in the second as freshman Haiden Brookens (Chambersburg, PA, Chambersburg Magnet) knocked in one on a double to center. The next batter up, Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester) also hit a double that drove in another run, she later scored off an error. Later on, sophomore Taylor Barker (Chehalis, WA., WF West) and Carty both hit RBI doubles that scored one run each, bringing the score to 9-0 after two innings. The Phoenix would go on to take game one by a final score of 18-0.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson scored 18 runs on 16 hits while committing zero errors while their opponents finished with zero runs on two hits with five errors. Potter struck out 13 on her way to her second win of the season. Wenger finished hitting 3-3 with one RBI, a walk, three stolen bases, and a double while Carty went 2-3 with two RBIs and a double. Brookens and Bradley both finished going 1-3 with two RBIs, two runs, and one walk while senior Katey Roth (Lebanon, PA., Lebanon) finished the day going 2-4 with two runs, two RBIs, two stolen bases, and a double. 

Game Two: The offense didn't stop in game two as Wilson picked up where the left off. Barker drove in the first run off an RBI double to left, making it 1-0 in the top of the first. In the second, the Phoenix drove in five runs on four hits. Wenger started with a walk that drove in a run. Next up, sophomore Marina Monsalve (Corona, CA., Centennial) doubled to left that knocked in three runs. Later on, Barker drove in the last run of the inning in on a single to third base, making the score 6-0. 

The offense really came alive in the top of the third when Wilson scored seven runs off of nine hits. Bradley knocked in the first run off a single to left field, followed by Wenger who hit an RBI single to right. Shortly after, sophomore Kaesey Greene (Taneytown, MD, Francis Scott Key) added a run with an RBI single along with freshman Drew Alldregde (Waynesboro, PA, Waynesboro) who hit an RBI single to center. The Phoenix went go on to take game two by a final of 14-0. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson scored 14 runs off of 18 hits without committing an error while holding their opponents to zero runs and just one hit against four errors. Sophomore Delaney Glazer (Rochester, WA., Rochester) got the nod in game two as she pitched a one-hit game with three strikeouts. Monsalve finished going 3-4 with four RBIs, two runs, two doubles, and a stolen base. Barker also had a great game, hitting 4-4 with three RBIs, two runs, and two doubles. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will host Southern Virginia University (3-9) in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 3, at 1:00 pm.
