CRESSON, Pa. - The Wilson College baseball team was in action this afternoon as they took on Mount Aloysius College's Mounties in non-conference action. The Phoenix (10-2, 1-1 CSAC) split a doubleheader series with the Mounties (5-5), dropping the first game, 5-4, but winning the second, 5-3.
Game One: Senior
KJ Curry (Bowie, MD., Coker University) scored the first run of the game by taking home after a throw down to second base. Later on, junior
Gerald Buchanan (Olney, MD, Montgomery CC (MD)) drove in another run on an RBI double to deep left field. Finally, senior
James Husar (Oxford, CT., CCBC Essex (Md.)) scored the last runs of the inning with an RBI double, bringing the score to 4-0 after one. In the bottom half of the inning, the Mounties started to chip away, getting one run back. Making the score, 4-1, still in Wilson's favor.
Skipping ahead to the bottom of the third inning, Mount Aloysius continued to chip away and scored another run. The powerful Phoenix managed to get guys on base, but could not drive them in as the score remained at 4-2 going into the fifth. That's when their opponents snuck within one run, bringing the score to 4-3. The Mounties managed to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth inning as they would eventually take the lead and win the first game, 5-4.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson scored four runs on five hits with one error while their opponents scored five runs on ten hits with one error. Juniors
Cam Nolet (Annapolis, MD., S.C. Aiken) and
Max Little (Crestview, FL., Spangdahlem) worked the mound in the first game, finishing with a combined eight strikeouts.
Husar finished the game going 1-3 with two RBIs and a double, while
Buchanan went 1-2 with one RBI, one run, and one double.
Game Two: After two scoreless innings to start the game, the Phoenix looked to make some noise in the top of the third. Junior
Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, MD., Shepherd University) did just that with an RBI line out to right that scored one. Shortly after,
Curry scored off a passed ball at the plate, making it 2-0. Later on in the inning, sophomore
Michael Marrale (Sykesville, MD, Old Dominion Univ.) scored off an error, bringing the score to 3-0.
Wilson added two more runs off errors in the fourth inning that pushed them further in front, 5-0. But the Mounties, again, started to chip away. Scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth and then another in the fifth. The Phoenix shut down a late attempt at a rally as they walked away with a win in game two, final score 5-3.
Inside the Box Score: Curry finished the game hitting 1-3 with one run, a double, and a walk,
Cook finished going 1-4 with one RBI and a run,
Marrale went 1-3 with one run and a walk, and senior
Dylan Procopio (Pittsburgh, PA., Westmoreland Community College) went 1-3 with two runs. Junior
Kevin Ehrman (York, PA., Central York) earned his third win of the season with a complete-game, eight strikeout appearance. Altogether, Wilson scored five runs off four hits with two errors while their opponents finished with three runs on five hits and four errors.
Up Next: The baseball team will take on St. Mary's College of Maryland (4-4, 2-0 CTC) on the road on Thursday, April 1, in doubleheader action beginning at noon.
