BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team was in action this evening, facing off against the Lions of Bryn Athyn College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) showdown. The Phoenix (3-4, 1-0 CSAC) defeated the Lions 93-86 in an overtime thriller.
How It Happened: Wilson tipped off the game with a 12-2 run in the first five minutes of action. Bryn Athyn spent the next five minutes trying to lessen the deficit, they eventually cut the score to 21-13 midway through the first half. The Phoenix dominated down low early on in the game, scoring all of their points from the paint or from beyond the arc during their run. Wilson continued to run things early on, taking a 40-28 lead going into halftime. In the second half, Bryn Athyn started to chip away early but the Phoenix managed to extend their lead back up to 16 points with 15 minutes left in the second half, 54-38. Shortly after, Wilson started a 9-4 run that extended their lead to 21 points, 63-42. With just over six minutes left in the second half, the Phoenix ended their lead to 23 points off a layup from junior
Darryl Garib (Dallas, TX., Forest Park), 76-53. The Lions then spent the remaining six minutes on a 27-4 run that tied the game up at 80 apiece and sent both teams into overtime.
In overtime, Wilson closed the game out on a 13-4 run that ended with a dunk from junior
Antonio Bussey (Aiken, SC, Claflin Univ.) with just one second left on the clock. Giving the Phoenix the victory, 93-86.
Inside the Box Score: Bussey tallied his second straight double-double, notching 27 points and collecting 12 rebounds.
Garib also finished with a double-double, his first of the season, adding 16 points and corralling ten rebounds. Three other Phoenix finished scoring double figures as senior
Adrian Thomas (Germantown, MD., Northwest HS), junior
Warrick Godwin Jr. (Largo, MD, College of So. MD), and junior
Jordan Miles (Waldorf, MD., Westlake) added 17, 14, and 13 points, respectively. Wilson scored 46 points in the paint while shooting 52% from the floor in the victory.
