Phoenix Falter to Nittany Lions

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team squared off against Penn State York, earlier this evening in a non-conference matchup. The Phoenix (3-4, 2-0 CSAC) were defeated by the Nittany Lions (8-0, 3-0 USCAA) by a final score of 66-59. 

How It Happened: After Penn State scored the first two points, Wilson started an 11-1 run that propelled them into the lead, 11-3. The Phoenix offense was lights out in the first quarter, extending their lead to 20-10 going into the second. In the second quarter, Wilson extended their lead to 12 points before Penn State started to chip away, cutting the lead to just five points with just over two minutes left in the half. Senior Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) ended the half with a layup that pushed the score to 30-23 going into the half. Opening up the third quarter, Wilson jumped on a 10-6 run that extended their lead to 40-29; junior Yaya Cannon (Lancaster, Pa., Elizabethtown College) tallied eight points during the run. York spent the rest of the quarter chipping away at the Phoenix lead, eventually cutting the deficit to just four points, 50-46. The Nittany Lions went on a 20-9 in the fourth quarter as they walked away with the 66-59 victory. 

Inside the Box Score: Cannon paced the offense with 22 points, eight rebounds, and three steals, shooting 10-19 from the field. Junior Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) notched her fifth straight double-double, recording 16 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) and junior Naomi Hanton (Bristow, Va., Keystone College) both tallied eight points while Posiulai recorded a season-high, 13 rebounds. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will travel to take on the Lions of Bryn Athyn (2-1, 1-1 CSAC) in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game on Saturday, December 3, at 1:00 p.m.
