Men's Basketball Topped by River Hawks

SELINSGROVE, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team went head to head against the River Hawks of Susquehanna University earlier this evening in a non-conference matchup. The Phoenix (2-4, 0-0 CSAC) were topped by the River Hawks (4-2, 0-0 Landmark) by a final score of 79-66.

How It Happened: Wilson tipped the game off with a 5-0 run off a layup from junior Antonio Bussey (Aiken, SC, Claflin Univ.) and a three-pointer from junior Warrick Godwin Jr. (Largo, MD, College of So. MD). Susquehanna started to chip away at the deficit, eventually taking the lead with 11:25 left in the first half. The two opponents battled for the rest of the half, trading points as well as the lead several times until the River Hawks extended their lead out to six points with just over two minutes remaining in the half. The Phoenix went into halftime trailing by a score of 36-31. Wilson shot 3-13 from beyond the arc in the first half while their opponent went 4-10.

In the second half, Susquehanna extended their lead to 12 points before Wilson broke the run with a layup from junior Jeremiah Carter-Johnson (Richmond, VA., Mills E. Godwin) and a three-point play off of junior Darryl Garib (Dallas, TX., Forest Park). Shortly after, the River Hawks started a 12 point run that put them on top, 62-40 midway through the second half. The Phoenix would go on to drop this game by a final score of 79-66.

Inside the box score:  Bussey tallied his first double-double of the season, leading the team with 30 points and ten rebounds while shooting 9-13 from the floor and 12-14 from the charity stripe. Garib rounded out double-digit scorers with 11 points and five rebounds; he also went a perfect 4-4 from the free-throw line. Senior Adrian Thomas (Germantown, MD., Northwest HS) and Godwin Jr. both scored five points while Carter-Johnson scored four. Wilson notched 34 points in the paint while their opponent managed to finish with 40.
