Phoenix Tame Lions

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball took on the Lions of Bryn Athyn College earlier this evening in the opening round on the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) playoffs. The Phoenix (9-12, 8-2 CSAC) defeated the Lions (9-12, 3-6 CSAC) three sets to none, with set scores of 25-8, 25-12, and 25-17. 

How It Happened: Wilson opened up the first set on a 13-0 run. Senior Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) helped fuel the run with seven aces during the run. The Phoenix controlled the first set, walking away with a 25-8 victory. In the second set, Wilson continued to dominate. This time they jumped on a 9-3 run to start the set. Later on, with the score in favor of the Phoenix 11-7, Wilson started another run that pushed their lead to 21-9. The Phoenix took the second set by a score of 25-12. Opening up the third set, the two teams traded points back and forth. With the score knotted up at eight apiece, Wilson started a 9-2 run that extended their lead to 17-10. Bryn Athyn started to gain some momentum late in the set, but the Phoenix fended off the comeback, winning the set by a score of 25-17. 

Inside The Box Score: Wilson totaled 33 kills on 63 attempts against nine errors, for a hitting percentage of .381, while limiting their opponent to five kills on 44 attempts against 15 errors. Junior Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School) paced the offense with 10 kills while senior Tia Jones (Springfield, VA., Lake Braddock) and freshman Deah Menedis (Reisterstown, MD, Franklin High) both added seven apiece. Posiulai and freshman Shani Rippetoe (York, PA, York County School of Technology) supplied the assists all match, recording 14 assists and 13 assists, respectively. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will travel to take on the #2 seed Notre Dame of Maryland (13-11, 8-1 CSAC) in the CSAC Semi-Finals on Thursday, November 4, at 7:00 p.m.
