BRYN ATHYN, Pa. - The Wilson College men's soccer team faced off against the Lions of Bryn Athyn College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup earlier this afternoon. The Phoenix (0-9, 0-3 CSAC) fought hard but were defeated by the Lions (4-6, 2-2 CSAC) 2-1 off a late, second-half goal.
How It Happened: The defense got right to work in this match, warding off a flurry of shots from Bryn Athyn early in the first half. About midway through the first, junior
Ryder Wallace (Jim Thorpe, PA., Jim Thorpe) tallied the first goal of the match off a penalty kick following a yellow card issued to the Lions, pushing the score in Wilson's favor 1-0. Senior goalkeeper
Andrew Hetzer (Chambersburg, PA., Cumberland Valley Christian) and the defense continued to come up big throughout the first half, keeping the Bryn Athyn attack at bay. About seven minutes after the first goal, the Lions were able to sneak a goal by the defense, as both teams entered halftime tied at 1-1. In the second half, freshman
Colin Davidson (Northampton, PA, Northampton Area High School) fired off a shot early that was saved by the keeper. About ten minutes later, Bryn Athyn managed to score another goal as they came away with the 2-1 victory.Â
Inside the Box Score: Wallace recorded the lone goal for Wilson, his second of the season. Sophomore
Dylan Youmans (Westminster, MD, South Carroll High School), freshman
Noah Bowe (Ashburn, VA, Stone Bridge High School), and
Davidson all recorded shots for the Phoenix as
Hetzer comes up with eight saves in the match.Â
Up Next: The men's soccer team will close out the non-conference part of their season as they get set to hit the road against Penn State Harrisburg (8-1-1, 5-0-0 UEC) on Wednesday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m.Â
