Phoenix Stomp Giants

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team hosted the Giants of Keystone College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) showdown. The Phoenix (7-11, 6-2 CSAC) rolled over the Giants (0-18, 0-6 CSAC) by a final score of three to nothing, with set scores of 25-13, 25-21, and 25-10. Before tonight's match, Wilson honored their three seniors, Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown), Tia Jones (Springfield, VA., Lake Braddock), and Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School)

How It Happened: The Phoenix opened up the first set on a 9-2 run. After Keystone stole two points, Wilson sparked a 10-2 run that extended their lead to 19-6. The Phoenix closed out the set by a score of 25-13. In the second set, the Giants gathered some points early, jumping out to a 5-3 lead and eventually pushing their lead to 14-9. Wilson responded by stringing together nine straight points, flipping the score, and putting them in front, 18-14. Keystone tried to gain some momentum late but the Phoenix shut down any chance of a comeback, winning the set by a score of 25-21. The third set saw more offensive attacks from Wilson, as they jumped out to an 11-8 lead off a four-point run. Shortly after, the Phoenix jumped on another run, extending their lead to 19-9, as Wilson closed out the final set by a score of 25-10. 

Inside the Box Score: Junior Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School) led the team with 12 kills on the night, while Jones added nine and freshman Deah Menedis (Reisterstown, MD, Franklin High) tallied six. Posiulai dished out the sets all night, finishing with 18 assists and a season-high six aces. The Phoenix finished with 32 kills on 82 attempts against 18 errors, including 17 aces, while their opponent gathered 8 kills on 66 attempts against 19 errors. 

Up Next: Wilson will close out non-conference play on Thursday, October 28, as they get set to travel to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Altoona at 7:00 p.m.
