Lions Roar Past Phoenix

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.-  The Wilson College Phoenix faced off against Penn State Mont Alto in a non-conference match-up tonight. Penn State (4-1) took the first two sets but Wilson ( 3-11, 3-2 CSAC) rallied to force a fourth set but ultimately fell 3-1. 

How It Happened: In the first set Wilson and Penn State went point for point to start of the match, then Penn State went on a six-point scoring run to boost the Lions to a 9-3 lead. The Phoenix tried to rally but couldn't catch the Lions as they dropped the first set 25-19. In the second set, Penn State was off to a quick start causing, the Phoenix to play catch up throughout the second set. Wilson had a few two-point runs as well as a three-point scoring run, but that wasn't enough to catch the Lions in another 25-19 victory. The third set brought some excitement as the Phoenix fought their way to a 26-24 victory over the Lions. During the third set, Wilson's two five-point scoring runs propelled the Phoenix into the lead and secured the set. Trying to keep the momentum going in the fourth set, the Phoenix had another five-point scoring run in the middle of the set to cut the lead to 13-10. Penn State, however, took the fourth set with a score of 25-15 after multiple four-point scoring runs. 

Inside the Box Score: Senior Tia Jones (Springfield, VA., Lake Braddock) led the team with 10 kills. Leading the scoring off of serves was fifth-year Sierra Hill (Hagerstown, Md., South Hagerstown) with four aces for the game. Senior Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) tallied 11 assists in the four sets leading the team. Meanwhile, junior Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School) led the team in blocks and digs with three blocks and 13 digs. 

Up Next: The Wilson College women's volleyball team has another non-conference home match against Delaware Valley University (2-11, 0-6 MAC), Saturday, October 16, at 11:00 a.m.
