Phoenix Fly Past Ravens

ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Wilson College women's volleyball team squared off against the Ravens of Rosemont College in a Colonial States Athletics Conference matchup earlier this evening. The Phoenix (3-10, 3-2 CSAC) defeated the Ravens (4-11, 1-2 CSAC) by a score of three sets to none, with set scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-17. 

How It Happened: Rosemont started the first set by rattling off a four-point run before the Phoenix responded with a 6-2 run that evened things up at six apiece. Rosemont started to gain some momentum and eventually jumped out in front. But, the Phoenix responded in a big way, battling back and taking the lead. Wilson would take the first set by a final score of 25-19. In the second set, the Phoenix jumped out to an early 12-6 lead. Wilson continued to set the tone, starting a six-point spurt that extended their lead to 18-9; as they would go on to take the second set by a score of 25-17. Both opponents battled it out in the third set, eventually knotting the score up at six. Then, the Phoenix sparked a 6-2 run that pushed them in front, 12-8. The Ravens tried to start a comeback, but Wilson shut things down as they would go on to win the set 25-17, giving them the three sets to none victory. 

Inside the Box Score: Altogether, the Phoenix finished with 27 kills on 57 attempts against seven errors, for a hitting percentage of .351, while holding their opponent to a hitting percentage of -.103. Senior Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School), junior Anika Eigen-Zucchi (Washington, D.C., St. Johns College High School), and freshman Deah Menedis (Reisterstown, MD, Franklin High) paced the offense as they each finished with six kills. Menedis also led the team with three aces while Posiulai totaled two. Sophomore Myla Owens (Westampton, NJ., Rancocas Valley Regional High School) led the team with 16 assists. 

Up Next: The women's volleyball team will get set to host Penn State Mont Alto (11-5, 5-2 PSUAC) on Friday, October 15, at 7:00 p.m.
