Phoenix Pick Up Sweep Against Schuylkill

EMMITSBURG, Md.- The Wilson Phoenix baseball team earned its first two victories of the season today with a doubleheader sweep against the Nittany Lions of Penn State Schuylkill. The Phoenix, who lost a doubleheader yesterday, improve to 2-2 on the young season.

Game One: In the bottom of the third inning, after Eric Holz (Williamsport, Pa., Loyalsock Township) reached on an error, Dylan Procopio (Pittsburgh, Pa.) laced a double to deep center field to score the first run of the game for Wilson. Later in the inning, Nick Quinn (Odenton, Md., St. Mary's) singled home Procopio, and then James Husar (Oxford, Conn.) hit a rocket down the left-field line to plate Quinn, giving Wilson a 3-0 lead at the end of the third.
Procopio stayed hot at the plate, hitting his second double of the game in the bottom of the fourth before Juan Rosario (Hollywood, Fla., Hollywood Hills) followed with an RBI double to put the Phoenix up 4-0.
Wilson would add another run in the bottom of the fifth after Quinn and Husar walked to start the inning, and Brandon Cook (Glen Burnie, Md.) later knocked Quinn in with an RBI double.
The Nittany Lions scored in the top of the sixth, but Jaret Price (Denton, Md.) prevented any further damage with a strikeout to strand runners at first and second. Trystan Housman (Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt) took the mound in the top of the seventh and after allowing the first two hitters of the inning to reach base, picked up three-straight outs to give the Phoenix a 5-1, game one victory.

The Nittany Lion lead would hold up until the bottom of the fourth when KJ Curry (Bowie, Md.) got the inning started by reaching on an error. Curry then stole second and was able to score after Kevin Finn (Gaithersburg, Md., Watkins Mill) singled. Later in the inning, Juan Rosario tripled to deep center which allowed Finn to score and tie the game at three. The Phoenix then took the lead after a Schuylkill error allowed Rosario to score. Nick Quinn knocked in the fourth run of the inning as he singled up the middle to plate Brandon Cook.
