CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team hosted the Lions of Bryn Athyn College as they continued Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. The Phoenix (2-15, 1-12 CSAC) were defeated by the Lions (5-15, 4-8 CSAC) by a final score of 65-39.
How It Happened: Both teams tuned up the defense early as neither team scored a basket until just over the seven-minute mark of the first quarter. Bryn Athyn would find the bucket first as they connected on an and-one layup that put them ahead by three. Senior
Jordyn Day (Richmond, VA., Varina) got the scoring started for Wilson as she was able to answer with a jumper on the next possession. The Lions would then score two quick buckets that put them ahead by a score of 7-2. Later on in the quarter, sophomore
Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) was able to score two buckets, including a buzzer-beater, that put Wilson within striking distance as they would enter the second quarter trailing, 7-6.
In the second, the Phoenix took an early lead as freshman
Madison Ross (New Oxford, PA., New Oxford) was able to connect on the put-back layup that put Wilson ahead, 8-7. The Lions then jumped on a big run that flipped the score back in their favor, 30-8. Freshman
Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) was able to end the drought off a layup in the paint as the Phoenix would head into halftime behind by a score of 32-10.
In the second half,
Murphy continued to score, as she added another layup, while junior
Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) drained a shot from beyond the arc. Later on in the quarter,
Day sunk a deep three as the Wilson offense continued to grind and move the ball around the floor. The Phoenix would head into the final quarter down by a score of 42-22.
Wilson started the final quarter on a 5-0 run. Freshman
Ta'Niya Kees (Baltimore, MD., Our Lady of Mount Carmel School) got the run started with a fastbreak layup off a steal from
Day followed by foul shots from
Singer and
Murphy. Later on in the quarter, freshman
Jordan Yeager (Waynesboro, PA., Greencastle-Antrim) would drain a fastbreak layup assisted by
Ross. Despite a great team effort, the Phoenix could not pull off the victory as they would go on the fall by a final score of 65-39.
