Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Outlast Lions

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa.- The Wilson men's basketball team took on the Lions of Bryn Athyn College tonight in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. Wilson picked up their sixth conference win of the season with a 67-58 victory over Bryn Athyn. With the win, the Phoenix improve to 9-12 overall and 6-4 in CSAC play.

How It Happened: Neither team could gain an edge in the first six minutes of play until the Phoenix went on an 8-1 run to pull ahead 16-9 over the Lions. Back-to-back three-pointers from Jordan Miles gave the Phoenix their first double-digit lead of the game before the Lions scored six unanswered to get back within five points. With the score sitting at 25-19 with 2 minutes to play in the half, Darryl Garib (Dallas, Texas., Forest Park) and Adrian Thomas (Germantown, Md., Northwest HS) scored on consecutive possessions to give Wilson a 29-19 lead going into the half. The Phoenix finished the first half shooting 33% from the field while shooting just 20% from beyond the arc.

After the first three minutes of the second half went scoreless, the Lions cut their deficit to eight with a layup. At the 13:35 mark, the Phoenix grabbed their largest lead of the game (16) after Daryl Garib scored on a driving layup and was fouled on the play. Garib was able to sink the free throw to close out a 7-0 run for Wilson.

With just under 10 minutes to play and trailing 46-34, the Lions began to chip away at the Phoenix lead. The Lions used a layup and two free throws to cut the deficit to 8 before they would knock down a three to cut it to just five. Bryn Athyn inched closer with 4:13 to go, scoring inside the paint to find themselves trailing by just three before a Phoenix timeout. The timeout proved to be effective for Wilson as Jeremiah Carter-Johnson (Richmond, Va., Mills E. Godwin) hit a big jump shot coming out of the stoppage.

Wilson then got a stop on the defensive end as Anthony Desruisseau (Burtonsville, Md., Springbrook HS) came down the floor and hit a floater in the lane to put Wilson up 54-48. On the following offensive possession for Wilson, Jordan Miles (Waldorf, Md., Westlake) put the dagger in the Lions with a three-pointer from the right-wing. Wilson went on to hit a couple of foul shots down the stretch as they would come away with the 67-58 win.

Inside the Box Score: Rashaan Bean led the Phoenix with 11 points and 10 rebounds, picking up his third double-double of the season. Adrian Thomas, Anthony Desruisseau, and Jordan Miles each finished with 10 points with Thomas snagging 7 rebounds and Miles hitting on 3-7 shots from three. Jeremiah Carter-Johnson, Xavier Dowtin (Oxon Hill, Md., Oxon Hill HS) and Darryl Garib each added 7 points for the Phoenix. Wilson received a strong effort from the bench as they ended the game with 24 bench points.
