Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Phoenix Dominate Defenders

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - The Wilson College men's basketball team hit the road this afternoon as they took on the Defenders of Clarks Summit University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) matchup. The Phoenix (10-12, 7-4 CSAC)  took down the Defenders (3-19, 2-9 CSAC) by a final score of 80-67 as the men's basketball team improves their winning streak to three straight.

How It Happened: Wilson opened the game up on a 10-0 run. Senior Rashaan Bean (San Antonio, TX., Forest Park) and sophomore Adrian Thomas (Germantown, MD., Northwest HS) got the game started with back-to-back threes while Thomas and junior Christian Evans (Baltimore, MD., Our Lady Of Mount Carmel) each added jumpers. Later on in the half, sophomore Anthony Desruisseau (Burtonsville, MD., Springbrook HS) and junior Kyle Hoffman (Waynesboro, PA., Waynesboro) both knocked down shots from beyond the arc as the Phoenix continued to shoot the ball early on. The Defenders would turn it on before the half was over thanks to some hot shooting of their own. Freshman Jeremiah Carter-Johnson (Richmond, VA., Mills E. Godwin) was able to help push the Wilson lead to back seven off a deep three-point shot. But, Clarks Summit would storm back and continue to pester the Phoenix as they would enter halftime up one, 31-30.

Early in the second half, Wilson took a two-point lead off another three from Carter-Johnson, but the Defender came back and knotted the game up at 37 apiece. The Phoenix continued to grind and eventually pushed their lead up to six points thanks to a three-pointer from Bean. This helped spark a 17-5 Wilson run that pushed their lead to 18 points and the score to 66-48 with just over eight and a half minutes left in the game. The Phoenix wouldn't look back as they would go on to win by a final score of 80-67.

Inside the Box Score: Wilson finished shooting 46% from the floor, including shooting 40% from beyond the arc, while their opponent finished shooting 47%. The Phoenix finished with four players in double figures as Thomas led the charge with 24 points. Bean tallied up 23 points and 6 rebounds, Evans finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Carter-Johnson totaled a career-high 11 points and eight boards. Wilson also led the points off turnovers battle as they finished with 22 points, all while holding their opponent to just nine.

Up Next: The men's basketball team will have a week off before they get set to take on CSAC foe the Giants of Keystone College (9-13, 5-6 CSAC) next Saturday, February 15, at 3:00 pm.
