URG, Pa. - The Wilson College women's basketball team squared off against the Ravens of Rosemont College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. The Phoenix (3-19, 2-15 CSAC) were defeated by the Ravens (7-17, 5-12 CSAC) by a score of 80-70.
How It Happened: Freshman
Ta'Niya Kees (Baltimore, MD., Our Lady of Mount Carmel School) got the game started with a layup in the paint followed by senior
Jordyn Day (Richmond, VA., Varina), who knocked down a three that put Wilson ahead early, 5-4. Freshman
Jordan Yeager (Waynesboro, PA., Greencastle-Antrim) and
Kees added more shots before the Ravens stated soar back and took a 12-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second, junior
Michaela Singer (Annville, PA., Annville-Cleona) started the quarter off with a deep three followed by a jumper from
Day. This sparked a 5-0 run from Rosemont but
Day was able to shut it down with another three. As Rosemont started to gain some momentum, the Phoenix responded with a 6-2 run that brought the score to 29-26 with just under two minutes left in the half.
Kees connected on a foul shot at the end of the half that brought the score to 31-29 in favor of Rosemont.
After the Ravens were able to go 4-4 from the foul line to start the third quarter,
Day continued to pull up from deep as she knocked down another three. Rosemont then started a 19-3 run, including three straight three's, that pushed them out in front by 19 points, 54-35. Sophomore
Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, HI., University Laboratory School) ended the run with a layup in the paint. Near the end of the quarter,
Day added another three that brought the score to 58-42 still in favor of the Ravens.
Rosemont started the final quarter on a 9-0 run that extended their lead. Soon after, Wilson started a 14-5 run. Freshman
Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, VA., Great Bridge Christian) started the run with two made foul shots, followed by
Singer who scored three the hard way, with an and-one layup. Soon after,
Kees kept the run going with a made foul shot and a jumper, followed by a layup from
Singer, while freshman
Madison Ross (New Oxford, PA., New Oxford) added two back-to-back jumpers. Later on in the quarter,
Singer connected on back-to-back threes followed by
Day who hit another. Despite a great effort, the Phoenix could not complete the comeback as they would go on to be defeated by a final score of 80-70.
Inside the Box Score: Wilson finished the contest shooting 34% from the floor while their opponent finished shooting 43%.
Day and
Singer led the Phoenix attack as they both finished with 17 points;
Kees rounded out scorers in double-figures with 16.
Murphy added seven,
Ross finished with a season-high six points while
Yeager and
Posiulai added four points and three points, respectively.
