Phoenix Rally to Down Highlanders in O.T.

LANGHORNE, Pa.- Samira Murphy's career-high 32 points helped the Wilson women's basketball team come from behind and defeat the Highlanders of Cairn University in an 81-76 overtime battle. With the win, Wilson finishes the season with a 5-20 overall record and a 3-15 CSAC record.

How It Happened: Both teams struggled to score in the first period with Cairn holding a 7-2 lead after 7 minutes of play. Tioleaoauli Posiulai (Waipahu, Hawaii., University Laboratory School) brought Wilson within three, but the Highlanders ended the first quarter with a 6-0 run to go ahead 13-4 after one.

The second quarter saw both teams get their offenses going, and after a solid 10 minutes of back-and-forth play, the Highlanders carried a 31-22 lead into halftime.
Cairn came out of the half and quickly went on an 8-2 spurt to put themselves ahead by 15 with 5 minutes to go in the quarter. Minutes later and trailing by 13, the Phoenix used a little 8-2 run of their own to get back within 7 heading into the fourth quarter.

Two minutes into the fourth quarter, Jordyn Day (Richmond, Va., Varina) knocked down a three to cut the deficit to 4 before Samira Murphy (Virginia Beach, Va., Great Bridge Christian) splashed in a three of her own to put the Phoenix down one.
With under four minutes to play, Ta'Niya Kees (Baltimore, Md., Our Lady of Mount Carmel School) scored on a driving layup to tie the game at 59. After Wilson took a 60-59 lead, the Highlanders went on a 7-0 run to move ahead by 6 with just two minutes left in regulation.
Tioleaoauli Posiulai then scored four unanswered points for Wilson, and after a Cairn free throw, Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa., Annville-Cleona) drilled a game-tying three-pointer with 24 seconds left. Cairn was unable to come away with a game-winning bucket as the game went into overtime.

Cairn started O.T. with a bucket, but Jordyn Day connected on a three-pointer to put Wilson ahead 70-69. After two free throws from Ta'Niya Kees on the next Phoenix possession, Samira Murphy scored inside the paint, giving Wilson a 74-70 advantage. With under a minute, Cairn hit a three-pointer to get within three, but Jordyn Day came up clutch on the offensive end, scoring on a layup to ultimately seal a season-ending victory for Wilson.
