Men's Volleyball Earns First Win of the Season in Tri-Match

MORRISTOWN, N.J. - The Wilson College men's volleyball team traveled to the College of St. Elizabeth today for a tri-match against the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute and a North Eastern Atlantic Conference (NEAC) match against the Eagles of the College of St. Elizabeth. The Phoenix (1-3, 0-3 NEAC) split their games today, winning the first match against the Cannoneers (0-7) by a score of three sets to none and dropping the second match against the Eagles (7-5, 1-3 NEAC) by a final of three sets to none. 

Match One: Wilson took on Pratt in nonconference action during the first match. The Phoenix won all three sets by scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-9. Senior Ian Firestone (York, Pa., York Suburban) led the charge for Wilson as he led the team in kills and assists, finishing with eight of each, while he also supplied six digs. Senior Oliver Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary) also had a solid performance as he added five kills, six aces, nine assists and led the team with eight digs while his brother, senior Dan Perry (London, England, Okanagan Secondary), finished with five kills and three blocks. Newcomers Juan Lamy (Clarksburg, MD, Living Grace Christian School) and Joshua Harvey (Perth, Australia, La Salle College) also great outings.  Lamy finished, tied for a team-high, with six aces while Harvey hustled for five digs, three blocks and two aces in the victory. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson finished with 26 kills on 59 attempts against 11 errors for a hitting percentage of .254 while their opponents finished with 15 kills on 69 attempts against 19 errors for a hitting percentage of -.058. The Phoenix racked up 17 aces in this match with 21 assists and 28 digs.  

Match Two: The Phoenix squared off against NEAC opponent the College of St. Elizabeth in their second match of the day. Wilson hung in there but dropped the match in three sets with scores of 25-16, 25-18, and 25-18. Firestone led the offense with eight assists, seven kills, and six digs. Oliver Perry added seven kills and five assists while sophomore Andrew Hetzer (Chambersburg, PA., Cumberland Valley Christian) collected six digs and two assists. 

Inside the Box Score: Wilson finished with 19 kills on 59 attempts against 17 errors, giving them a hitting percentage of .034 while their opponent finished with 33 kills on 69 attempts against 14 errors for a hitting percentage of .275. 

Up Next: The Phoenix will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they travel to take on the Wildcats of SUNY POLY (4-9, 0-3 NEAC) in conference play at 1:00 pm.
